Fight against NHS cuts is 'trench warfare'

As another NHS Trust – this time Pennine Acute Care in North Manchester – announces up to 1,000 job losses, Frank Hont North West regional secretary of UNISON has warned union members not to be pressurised into accepting poorer terms and conditions in the face of deliberately ramped up jobs threats: http://www.morningstaronline.co.uk/index.php/news/content/view/full/101631

“Hospitals are freezing midwife recruitment as they drive to save 20 billion and the horrific consequences of taking the axe to front-line maternity care are now staring us in the face”

“Time and again we are seeing hospital management saying that they may be able to keep more posts if staff agree to give up their rights to sick leave or work extra overtime at weekends. But we want to urge members not to be swayed as it took years to get advancements on working conditions and to sacrifice them now would see them never being reinstated again.”
